Laying around at home all day is not one of those things I enjoy doing. Add in the fact that I’m full of some brown/green substance that I think is phlegm, and a headache that makes a screaming child seem like relief in comparison, and you can draw the conclusion that I feel pretty shit.
While out buying (prescription) drugs, I was blessed with 4 mins and 26 secs of relief by the way of AK’s Opensouls.
Their upcoming album ‘Standing In The Rain’ is slated for a August release, but their current single ‘Hold You Close’ is available now through iTunes (and some other, inferior music stores).
What I’ve liked about Opensouls is their ability to make contemporary music with an obvious nod to R&B classics. Big horns, jazzed up guitars, tremendous breaks, their first album Kaleidoscope had it in spades.
‘Hold You Close’ signifies a shift in their style, but only slightly; rather than a nod to classic R&B, they walk the same path taken by Raphael Saadiq on his last release ‘The Way I See It’ – dropping a genuine R&B classic cut.
You can take the track in for free on Opensouls mySpace page, which I’m sure will lead you to an upcoming purchase, which is available through my friends at iTunes ![]()
