Archive for June, 2010

I’ve avoided sourcing anything by ‘The Naked and Famous’ mainly because I thought the name was silly (which is fricken ridiculous), and now I hear that they took it from Tricky; which gives them instant props. ‘Young Blood’ however would convert even the most fickle – big sweeping synths provide the background to emotive and [...]

Band of Horses are more than beards; they’re cowboys too. Playing live on Jools Holland, dropping ‘Compliments’ and on Q TV playing ‘Laredo’ from their latest album ‘Infinite Arms’, BoH remind us of how they inately craft toe-tapping hooks and country fused melodies.

The Roots – Dear God 2.0

Posted by: benny In: Listen|Play

Working on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon might not seem like it would have crazy benefits for a band like The Roots – after all, they seem like they’ve done pretty much everything possible in the last 23 years…but being able to call on Jim James from Monsters of Folk (and My Morning Jacket) to [...]

St Vincent – Marrow (on Letterman)

I love The National, and I’ve never been disappointed by any performance on Jools Holland (I even end up admiring bands I know I don’t like when they play on “…Later…”) so tracking this down makes me compelled to share. ‘High Violet’ is available now – and is, by all accounts, a fantastic album.

Ratatat – Mahalo

Posted by: benny In: Listen|Play|Watch

I love the new Ratatat album – it’s full of textured soundscapes which can invoke effects of dizziness, disorientation and dancing (see what I did there?). LP4 is available now. Ch-oice. The beautiful video for the equally beautiful ‘Mahalo’ is below…Quite befitting of my 2000th post methinks.

Not really related to anything other than shameless promotion – the new Adidas ad takes the Star Wars theme (remember, they dropped a couple of Star Wars themed kicks recently) links a bunch of Adidas sponsored artists and the FIFA World Cup. Perhaps they’re saying something about the safety issues in the Republic? (the one [...]
