Flying Lotus – Live in Wellington

Posted by: benny In: Listen

Coming to Wellington (and giving me unfound goosebumps at the idea of it), “California’s Answer to Aphex Twin”, Flying Lotus drops into Sandwiches on Wednesday 7th Jan to enlighten us with his left-field take on hip-hop. Los Angeles was definately one of the highlights of 2008, so this show will be a killer. Door Sales [...]

Conor Oberst – Cape Canaveral (Live)

Posted by: benny In: Listen

I still like Conor Oberst’s self-titled album from earlier in the year – it’s full of great melodies and even a few thigh slapping moments…but either I over did-it when it came out or it’s listening life span is short; I can’t say it’s getting the heaviest of rotation at the moment. Still, I appreciate [...]

2008 was full of surprises…

Posted by: benny In: Listen

The end (of the year) is nigh, and before the resolutions start, it’s always good to take stock of the year and reflect. For me, it’s been a crazy year, and for music, it’s been a interesting one. New Zealand music worked it’s way into US pop-culture (courtesy of Flight of the Conchords), Blur reformed, [...]

Kayne West – Love Lockdown (Flying Lotus Remix)

Posted by: benny In: Listen

Not sure what I think of the new Kayne; it’s cool, but maybe not in the way I want it to be. What is cool is the deconstruction Flying Lotus has done on ‘Love Lockdown’. In true Flying Lotus fashion, it’s full of a menagerie of beeps and screeches, giving the effect this version was [...]

2008 – A Shotbro.com wrap-up

Posted by: benny In: Listen

Every year I decide it’s a crap thing to do, but every year I find myself building it. There’s something cleansing about organising the last years worth of noise into a easily palatable list. So here it is, a definitive guide of what to sample from 2008. 10. Flying Lotus – Los Angeles Flylo’s full [...]

Very very good opener from the upcoming unnamed PBJ album. Probably NSFW, due to the Man v Man dance off, and blasphemous chorus. Peter Bjorn and John – Take Your Hands off that Girl

Jimmy Fallon, I guess we don’t see enough of him here to gauge the quality of the guy, but he’s taking over Late Night with Conan (now to be named Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (duh)…but the company he keeps sure makes me think more of him. мебели

Blur – Reunited and it feels so goooood.

Posted by: benny In: Listen

It’s nice when any band reunites (almost any band), but one as great as Blur and still with a number of years in front of them, well that’s a whole new kind of exciting. Take a look at the promo of the reunion announcement and try not to get excited – I dare you.
