Daft Punk, Alive 2007

Posted by: benny In: Listen

Electronic music has generally always left a ‘disposable’ feeling on me. What was popular in Electronica in Christmas 2000 is now only a lingering memory, but what was good with a guitar then still sticks with me now (like Coldplay’s ‘Parachutes’ or ‘Kid A’). Daft Punk has always an exception to the rule. They’ve been [...]

Foo Fighters announce NZ show

Posted by: benny In: Listen

…so probably a definite ‘no’ for a late BDO inclusion. The band will play Auckland’s Vector Arena on May 5. The Foo Fighters are regular visitors to New Zealand, having last played here in November, 2005. Both shows, in Wellington and Auckland, sold out. Their last album, the critically acclaimed Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, [...]

BDO 08 – Second announcement

Posted by: benny In: Listen

Well, not much here for anyone who was waiting to see who else was signed up for the Big Day Out. Even though there are a few artists there I am happy about seeing, there was no QOTSA or even Smashing Pumpkins (who are both heavily rumored) – though I am interested about Kool Keith [...]

Homegrown – NZ’s ‘Homebake’?

Posted by: benny In: Listen

X-Air has bought a heap of people to Wellington over the past 3 years (including Tony Hawk), but the 2008 edition has been canned in favour of a NZ music showcase – Vodafone ‘Homegrown’. What it is: A one-day music festival on Wellington’s waterfront on April 26. The line-up: About 35 Kiwi bands will play [...]

QOTSA for Big Day Out 2008?

Posted by: benny In: Listen

Who really knows the answer to that one…but media has it that another 40 acts are to be added to the bill next Wednesday (www.stuff.co.nz will have the announcement from 8am NZ Time) But Queens of the Stone Age are at the top of my wishlist – and they only solidify their spot there with [...]

Radiohead – Thumbs Down webcast

Posted by: benny In: Watch

Another medium falls to the Radiohead machine this week. Their “Thumbs Down” webcast on Radiohead.tv ran last night. I only caught the tail-end of the webcast, but thanks to the wonders of YouTube, and the trainspotters at Pitchfork, I have now managed to catch the bulk of it. The work put into this piece of [...]

Kiss – Rockin’ Easter 08

Posted by: benny In: Listen|Reviews

It seems to be the week of gig announcments in Wellington. This time another reunion band, KISS have announced a one off gig at the Westpac Stadium as part of a two day concert ‘Rocktacular’. (That’s what the promoters are calling it). Ace Frehley and Peter Criss may have gone, but Gene Simmons and Paul [...]

Split Enz – Reunion Tour

Posted by: benny In: Listen

Man…here’s a reunion that I never thought would happen. Announced on Campbell Live this evening, Split Enz are scheduled to do a three date tour on New Zealand (Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland) in March 08.
